The Road to Somewhere: Road is on the fast track

Future Riverside Ave, entrance.

The Road to Somewhere is a series of articles that chronicle the redevelopment of the former mall site with the simple start of a road. Road to Somewhere also covers community comments and politics commentary.

The new road is being built at lighting speed. The road work continues daily.

There is a new lower grade level on the road entrance, on located on Riverside Avenue.

Another goal is in front of the police department. The entire property has all entrances.

Also, the word is that one or two investors are already interested in the smaller lots.

This road is going up fast — really fast.

So fast it makes it political — told you so.

The Hospital bought a large portion of the property with ample parking  which should not be a problem for Hospital.

Keep speaking positive folks, the BDA is working hard to make this happen. The BDA has an amazing track record of bringing in new business and helping current business stay in town.

The new road will be about 1,000 feet long and contain many streetscape components including trees, brick pavers, a center median made of “stamped asphalt,” decorative lights, landscaping, granite curbing, and a bus stop location.

The road will match the current look of North Main and Main Streets. The City will also update the traffic signal at North Main Street and Laurel streets.

Quick Note:

To end this edition I just want to thank former Mayor Ken Cockayne for his unprofessional, pointless and mean comments about me and the Roundup. The spike in our readership doubled. Please continue. Thanks ken.

Brady intercepted twice as Dolphins beat Pats 27-20

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.  — Tom Brady was intercepted twice by Xavien Howard and held without a third-down conversion Monday night, and the Miami Dolphins snapped the New England Patriots’ eight-game winning streak with a surprising 27-20 victory. The Dolphins (6-7) were 11-point underdogs at home, but they kept the Patriots (10-3) from clinching their ninth consecutive AFC East title — at least for another week. Brady went 24 for 43 for 233 yards and one touchdown. Miami sacked him twice and hit […]

Google wants you to experiment with its new photo apps

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ca– Google is testing some new ways have fun with smartphone photography. The company released a trio of free photo apps on Monday. Created as experiments by different Google departments, the simple mobile apps include a photo booth with pose-detecting powers, a way to remix videos like a DJ, and a tool for turning any mundane adventure into a comic book panel. The company is calling the free downloads Appsperiments, a clunky portmanteau of “apps” and “experiments.” The […]

Tax overhaul could mean major changes to your paycheck

Tax overhaul could mean major changes to your paycheck

If Republicans succeed in passing a tax overhaul by Christmas, the law could mean major changes for your take-home pay — not all of them welcome. But those changes probably won’t be reflected in your paycheck in time for the New Year. The American Payroll Association, whose members represent 17,000 employers, warned lawmakers Monday that they were creating a “herculean task” for companies and payroll service providers by leaving them such a short time to start implementing the new provisions, […]
