Bristol inundated with news coverage about Muslim speaker’s cancelled event

Northeast Middle School

Once again Bristol is in the regional and national spotlight.

A class studying world religions at Northeast Middle School was slated to have a Muslim woman come and “dispel misconceptions” about Islam.

But then the threats started, the Hartford Courant reported, forcing the school to cancel the speech amid a wave of troubling emails and phone calls.

The school initially sent a letter home to parents letting them know that Annam Choudhry, who is Muslim, would speak at the social studies class on Nov. 22.

The letter said that Choudhry, who grew up in New York and lives in Connecticut, started an organization called YURSA, according to Fox61.

The Dolphins (6-7) were 11-point underdogs at home, but they kept the Patriots (10-3) from clinching their ninth consecutive AFC East title — at least for another week. Brady went 24 for 43 for 233 yards and one touchdown. Miami sacked him twice and hit […]

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ca– Google is testing some new ways have fun with smartphone photography. The company released a trio of free photo apps on Monday. The company is calling the free downloads Appsperiments, a clunky portmanteau of “apps” and “experiments.” The […]

Tax overhaul could mean major changes to your paycheck

Tax overhaul could mean major changes to your paycheck

If Republicans succeed in passing a tax overhaul by Christmas, the law could mean major changes for your take-home pay — not all of them welcome. But those changes probably won’t be reflected in your paycheck in time for the New Year. The American Payroll Association, whose members represent 17,000 employers, warned lawmakers Monday that they were creating a “herculean task” for companies and payroll service providers by leaving them such a short time to start implementing the new provisions, […]

  1. I find this disgusting and embarrassing for our city. Studying world religion, schedule a guest speaker and then receive threats? Come on people of Bristol, we are sooo much better than that. Diversity is Bristol.
