Republicans continue to support Cockayne over sexual harassment allegations & censuring for second time

City Hall plague of Ken Cockayne

Connecticut State Democrats issued a press release after the second censuring of Mayor Ken Cockayne.

In it, State Democrats stated “Last week Connecticut Republicans feigned outrage when condemning Harvey Weinstein and insisting that the Connecticut Democratic Party and its elected officials return Weinstein’s direct donations, which they had already done.

With the news that Bristol Mayor Ken Cockayne has been unanimously censured by his city council (for the second time), including its GOP members, it’s only fair to ask whether the Connecticut Republican Party continues to support Cockayne, and, if not, why they have not returned or donated the $425 the party received in donations from Cockayne and, if they plan to donate them, where the Republican elected officials will donate their contributions.

“Over the last several days, millions of women have bravely come forward and made public that they have been sexually harassed,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Michael Mandell. “It’s clear that harassment and assault are widespread problems. These allegations against Mayor Cockayne should disqualify him for re-election on November 7. We are calling on the Connecticut Republican Party, as well as the GOP gubernatorial candidates to whom he has donated, to disavow their support of Mr. Cockayne and return his donations. While Connecticut Republicans just woke up to this problem last week, it is not a one-time issue for the Connecticut Democrats, and we must fight sexual assault and harassment regardless of where and when it occurs. One incident is too many and should be loudly condemned.”

For context: Donald Trump was the single largest donor to the Connecticut Republican Party, yet Republicans have downplayed the rampant allegations of sexual assault/harassment as not “equivalent” to other allegations. Democrats have also previously questioned the CT GOP’s credibility when it comes to maintaining donations from individuals who plead guilty to endangerment of a child. They have no response to these questions, but display incredible speed in order to cry wolf when it suits them.

The Stan Simpson Show: A political shift in Connecticut; Looking ahead to 2018 Gubernatorial race

HARTFORD —  CT’s Democratic’ party – once thought to be slumping, picked up some momentum after the recent local elections. Democrats now control the councils in Republican strongholds such as Farmington, Glastonbury and Southington. They also regained the majority in the predominantly Democratic city of New Britain. So, what does this mean for next year’s highly anticipated state gubernatorial and legislative elections? In CT, Republicans have evolved from a political after-thought in the legislature to near -equity with Democrats. J.R. Romano […]

Anthem and Hartford HealthCare reach contract agreement

HARTFORD – Hartford HealthCare and Anthem insurance have finally reached an agreement. The three-year agreement was announced after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.  It will restore in-network access to Hartford HealthCare`s physicians, facilities, programs and services. Since October 1st, when the two companies failed to reach a new agreement, 60,000 patients began paying “out-of-network” prices for their regular doctor care.  But the contract is retroactive to October 1st, so those  patients should only end up paying what they would have paid as if […]

Malloy holds back state funds to cities and towns

HARTFORD — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is holding back funds to state agencies and municipalities to cover an estimated $881.6 million gap built into the newly passed, two-year $41.3 billion budget. The Democrat’s fiscal office announced Friday that the bulk of the $881.6 million — $700 million — will come from expected savings from the state employee labor concession agreement. But Malloy’s plan reduces state aid to cities and towns by $91 million, a move Democratic House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz […]

Regarding the story of the Democratic Party and Mayor Ken. If the local and state Dems are anything like the national Democrats, then I am confident that they will also lie, steal and cheat to win an election. That’s what’s happening here. They are sleezy and I don’t believe a word of this. I support Mayor Ken!
