Marinellis, Once a Burlington Event Destination, is Now a Neighborhood Eyesore

Former Marinellis Supper Club

BURLINGTON — We all remember what Marinellis was all about. Love it or leave it, Marinellis had a quaint look and feel offering a beautiful lakeside setting, dinners, Sunday brunch, wedding receptions, showers, anniversaries and private parties.

Since 1974, the family-owned and operated Marinelli’s Supper Club had been a favorite spot.

The restaurant has been closed for over 8 years now. The building is in poor shape with high weeds in the parking lot blocked by concrete barriers.

Back in 2011 Jim Marinelli told the Courant “May 15, 2011 will be our last day,” Marinelli, whose late father and mother, Nick and Maxine Marinelli, founded the restaurant, overlooking Lake Major on Monce Road.

“It’s a combination of reasons,” said Marinelli, who ran it with brother Jon Marinelli and their mother.

The combination of reasons was a poor economy at the time and a desire for the family to move on, said Marinelli.

Marinelli said in 2011 there were plans for the property, but it won’t be a restaurant.

He declined to comment further until the sale was final.

Since then, the property still remains vacant.

Authorities say the five Stonington High School students, all boys under 18, have been charged with disseminating sexually explicit and inappropriate images. Officials say a teacher found images of female students on a cellphone in late January. Police say they interviewed 10 students and took possession of several electronic devices. Stonington Police Capt. Todd Olson said Wednesday police […]

Again the question: Could armed teachers stop shootings?

Again the question: Could armed teachers stop shootings?

WASHINGTON DC  — In the aftermath of yet another mass school shooting, President Donald Trump says that if one of the victims, a football coach, had been armed “he would have shot and that would have been the end of it.” Revisiting an idea he raised in his campaign, Trump’s comments in favor of allowing teachers to be armed come as lawmakers in several states are wrestling with the idea, including in Florida, where the 17 most recent school shooting […]

Possible winter mix Thursday; Cloudy, some rain Friday

Possible winter mix Thursday; Cloudy, some rain Friday

Temperatures will continue to fall throughout the day with scattered showers in the morning, mixing in with a few ice pellets in parts of the state. Then during the afternoon as an area of heavier precipitation moves in the air will get cold enough to change from a mix of rain and sleet over to snow for a while (away from the shore). The ground is BEYOND warm after Wednesday but air temperatures will be around freezing. This could […]

US beat Canada to take Women’s Ice Hockey Gold for first time since 1998

GANGNEUNG, South Korea — The Americans’ gold medal drought is finally over. They needed the first shootout in an Olympic women’s final to do it, too. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored a dazzling, triple-deke goal in the sixth round of a shootout thriller and Maddie Rooney stuffed the last two Canadians to wrap up a 3-2 victory over archrival Canada on Thursday. The Americans piled over the boards, throwing gloves in the air before huddling and hugging on the ice — 20 […]
