Bristol Woman Pleads Guilty to Preparing False Tax Returns for Clients for More Than a Decade

The Internal Revenue Service headquarters in Washington, D.C.

BRISTOL — Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Joel P. Garland, Special Agent in Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in New England, announced that Robin Reid, 54, of Bristol, pleaded guilty to preparing false federal income tax returns.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Reid operated a tax return preparation practice.

From at least 2005 and continuing until 2015, Reid falsified information on numerous returns that she prepared for clients by inflating deductions for medical and dental expenses, charitable contributions, employee-related expenses, and other expenses.

Reid often created fictitious Schedule C forms in order to fabricate deductible business expenses, and fictitious Schedule E forms to inflate expenses relating to rental properties.

By routinely overstating deductions, Reid reduced taxable income on the respective returns, and caused a tax loss of $1,126,011 to the government.

Reid pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and assisting the filing of a false tax return, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of three years, a fine of up to approximately $2.2 million, and restitution.

Reid is scheduled for sentencing on December 21, 2017.

Reid’s clients are required to resolve their own tax liability with the Internal Revenue Service.

Again the question: Could armed teachers stop shootings?

Again the question: Could armed teachers stop shootings?

WASHINGTON DC  — In the aftermath of yet another mass school shooting, President Donald Trump says that if one of the victims, a football coach, had been armed “he would have shot and that would have been the end of it.” Revisiting an idea he raised in his campaign, Trump’s comments in favor of allowing teachers to be armed come as lawmakers in several states are wrestling with the idea, including in Florida, where the 17 most recent school shooting […]

Possible winter mix Thursday; Cloudy, some rain Friday

Temperatures will continue to fall throughout the day with scattered showers in the morning, mixing in with a few ice pellets in parts of the state. Then during the afternoon as an area of heavier precipitation moves in the air will get cold enough to change from a mix of rain and sleet over to snow for a while (away from the shore). The ground is BEYOND warm after Wednesday but air temperatures will be around freezing. This could […]

US beat Canada to take Women’s Ice Hockey Gold for first time since 1998

GANGNEUNG, South Korea — The Americans’ gold medal drought is finally over. They needed the first shootout in an Olympic women’s final to do it, too. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored a dazzling, triple-deke goal in the sixth round of a shootout thriller and Maddie Rooney stuffed the last two Canadians to wrap up a 3-2 victory over archrival Canada on Thursday. The Americans piled over the boards, throwing gloves in the air before huddling and hugging on the ice — 20 […]
