6th Annual Summer Festival at Rockwell Park Expected to Draw Thousands This Weekend

Summer Festival at Rockwell Park

The Summer Festival at Rockwell Park has turned into a Summertime tradition in Bristol. The West End Association will host its sixth Summer Festival at Rockwell Park on Saturday, August 19th, 10am to 6pm.

Last year’s festival was well attended with over 10,000 people who enjoyed the festival.

The free festival showcases and celebrates Bristol’s West End community, its merchants, and residents. It offers a wide variety of music and dance performances, crafts, food, skateboard and basketball tournaments, car show and a pie-eating contest.

Admission and parking are free, and shuttle buses running from the Dollar General front parking lot to the Park also are free.

There will be a multitude of kids’ activities, including an expanded “Kid’s Zone” presented by Imagine Nation Early Learning Center, The Bridge Community Church and the local NAACP chapter.

Held throughout Rockwell Park from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Festival features many local restaurants and food vendors, crafts and local organizations.

There will be a Classic Car Show presented by The Bristol Auto Club, and a wide variety of musical acts certain to appeal to listeners of all ages and interests.

This year’s festival will also feature an interactive “distracted driving simulator” presented by Allstate Insurance. The simulator is part of a traveling safety exhibit Allstate is presenting across the country this year.

The AAU Basketball Tournament is being held at Bracket and Rockwell Parks, with the finals at Rockwell.

The skateboard competition is being sponsored by Biker’s Edge, and the pie-eating contest, with separate categories for adults and children, is being sponsored by Harvest Bakery.

Musicians will perform acoustically at the park gazebo, and the main stage will feature well-known local and regional artists. Styles will include alternative and country, blues, folk, indie rock and local dance troupes.

A raffle drawing will be held on the day of the festival. Raffle entries are free, but can only be completed and submitted at Rockwell Park on August 19 th. Winners don’t have to be present for the drawing, held late in the day.

The Rockwell Summer Festival is organized by the West End Association of Bristol. Their mission is to help create and maintain a safe, friendly, and family oriented neighborhood, filled with thriving businesses, convenient public transportation, attractive amenities, and activities. They envision that people in the neighborhood will demonstrate their pride by taking responsibility for the ongoing care of their homes and businesses.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.  — Tom Brady was intercepted twice by Xavien Howard and held without a third-down conversion Monday night, and the Miami Dolphins snapped the New England Patriots’ eight-game winning streak with a surprising 27-20 victory. Brady went 24 for 43 for 233 yards and one touchdown. Miami sacked him twice and hit […]

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ca– Google is testing some new ways have fun with smartphone photography. The company released a trio of free photo apps on Monday. The company is calling the free downloads Appsperiments, a clunky portmanteau of “apps” and “experiments.” The […]

Tax overhaul could mean major changes to your paycheck

If Republicans succeed in passing a tax overhaul by Christmas, the law could mean major changes for your take-home pay — not all of them welcome. But those changes probably won’t be reflected in your paycheck in time for the New Year. The American Payroll Association, whose members represent 17,000 employers, warned lawmakers Monday that they were creating a “herculean task” for companies and payroll service providers by leaving them such a short time to start implementing the new provisions, […]
