The June 30 registration deadline for the 29th Annual ShopRite Nutmeg State Games, hosted by the City of New Britain, is quickly approaching. Space is limited for many events, so register online today to secure your spot. Some sports have later registration deadlines. For information on specific sports and how to register, please visit or call our office at (860) 788-7041.

Over 7,000 athletes, 600 coaches, 1,500 volunteers and 20,000 spectators will converge on the city for the eighth consecutive year. Connecticut’s premier Olympic style multi-sport competition will be held July 15 – Aug. 6. The games consist of 20 different sporting offerings, which include team and individual competitions.

The Nutmeg State Games is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, governed by the National Congress of State Games and recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as the official state games of Connecticut

Road back open after fatal 3-car crash in Chaplin

CHAPLIN — Connecticut State Police said a three-car crash led to a fatality Tuesday morning. At around 6:30 a.m., State Police said they responded to the area of 359 Hampton Road in Chaplin for a three car crash. The crash left some people trapped and one person with a life-threatening injury. That person was taken to Windham Hospital.
