Singer with Bristol roots to perform Good Things Matter Concert

Andrew McKnight

On Friday, May 5, 2017, 7:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 90 Church Street, Bristol, singer Andrew McKnight will offer a concert for unity filled with stories and songs to help the community remember the things that make America a great country.

Asbury United Methodist Church has a history of bringing the community together. In the past year, Pastor Laura Galbraith and the congregation hosted an Honest Conversations with your Muslim Neighbor event with a standing room only crowd.

The church was also the location for the Bristol Hug, an informal event organized by Laura Minor and others to remind us of what brings us together in this culture of discord.

This concert will elicit that feeling of being one community as Andrew McKnight’s gift for cinematic detail and memorable melodies bring to life his character sketches of a variety of ordinary Americans – soldiers, miners, farmers, multi-generational families in a community and new immigrants.

McKnight sings of Ansel Adams capturing the beauty of American landscapes and of a farming couple in the mid-West waiting for rain after a drought. McKnight tells the story of waiting for sons and daughters in armed forces to come home.

His songs reflect on changes to our cities and towns as new development covers our past. “Good Things Matter” is a song which won him the Great American Song Contest and his deep commitment to justice led him to write other inspirational songs including, “Something Worth Standing For”.

McKnight’s grandparents lived in Forestville and Andrew spent a lot of time there. His penchant for genealogy has led him on a journey to find his own ancestors and their role in Bristol’s history.

All are invited to attend this evening of songs, stories and a lot of great music from a variety of stringed instruments.

Tickets are a suggested $15 at the door. Doors open at 7 for a 7:30 p.m. concert.
