Bristol Hospital’s Families are First Birthing Center was recently honored by the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC) and inducted into the IAC Hepatitis B Birth Dose Honor Roll.

This honor recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that have attained a coverage rate of 90 percent or greater for administering hepatitis B vaccine before hospital discharge to all newborns.

Families are First was recognized for its noteworthy dedication to patient safety by establishing a policy to administer the first dose of hepatitis B and achieving a remarkable coverage rate of 99 percent throughout 2015.

Families are First would like to thank Chair of Pediatrics Tiffany Labella, MD, for her work overseeing the policies and procedures component of the award as well as the departments that assisted with this project including the Pharmacy and Clinical Informatics.

The IAC works to increase immunization rates and prevent disease by creating and distributing educational materials for health professionals and the public that enhance the delivery of safe and effective immunization services.

The coalition also facilitates communication about the safety, efficacy, and use of vaccines within the broad immunization community of patients, parents, health care organizations and government health agencies.
