Gary Schaffrick Mayoral campaign manager, longtime Bristol Republican leader, ex-state GOP treasurer and former Bristol Housing Authority Chair rejected a plea deal on Tuesday and is likely headed to trial according to the Bristol Press.

Schaffrick is accused of bathing nude with a 5-year-old boy.

In the police report, investigators say that Schaffrick openly bragged to relatives about how much he enjoyed bath time with a 5-year-old during sleepovers at Schaffrick’s residence. Schaffrick took baths with the boy and put him in his lap while both were nude, according to the warrant, which said the two sometimes shared a bed.

Schaffrick was charged with one count of risk of injury/impairing the morals of a minor. The felony charge carry a minimum penalty of ten years in prison and fines.

According to the Bristol Press, “The 5-year-old boy often had a bad attitude for several days after returning from a sleepover at Schaffrick’s, and the boy told a social worker that Schaffrick would give him candy to sleep in the same bed as him, instead of the extra bed in the apartment.

The Connecticut Post reported that Schaffrick has been paid $4K by the Connecticut GOP party since his arrest and resignations.

The CT Post also said “Gary Schaffrick received nine paychecks totaling $4,275 since his March 28 resignation from his unpaid treasurer’s post and his paid back-office job with the state GOP, according to the Federal Election Commission.”

Most recently, Schaffrick helped Bristol residents with children apply for same day voter registration at city hall.

Schaffrick continues to play an active role with Bristol Republicans and the Bristol Housing Authority.

Schaffrick is scheduled to appear on Jan. 11 at New Britain Superior Court for a possible trial.
