Chippens Hill Middle School participate in the Final Mile

Last month, nearly 2,000 students from 37 schools across the state gathered for the HMF FitKids in School “Final Mile” event at Rentschler Field. Over forty students from Chippens Hill Middle School participated in the event.

The Hartford Marathon Foundation’s HMF FitKids in School program is designed to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle in middle school students. Students ran before, during or after school over the past five weeks to accumulate 12 or 25 miles. The “Final Mile” celebrated the completion of their marathon (26.2 miles) or half-marathon (13.1 miles).

Each student received a medal as they crossed the finish line to celebrate their accomplishment. Following the run, students participated in the World of Fitness Expo, which included interactive fitness activities and demonstrations.

Transportation, snacks and t-shirts were provided free to participating schools through the support of HMF FitKids in School sponsors, including the Aetna Foundation and United Bank Foundation Connecticut.
