The Bristol Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of a new Shop Local, Chamber First campaign aimed at driving consumers to local businesses and Chamber members.

Encouraging people to shop local is a vital component of promoting small business growth and ensuring the success of local businesses.

According to a report from Entrepreneur Magazine, significantly more money stays in the community when people shop local versus shopping at large, national chains. This is beneficial not only for local businesses, but everyone in the community.

Shopping local works to strengthen the community by raising property values, creating jobs and most importantly, building an environment where people want to spend their money and time locally.

“We are proud of our local businesses and they are truly the backbone of our economy. With this new Shop Local, Chamber First campaign, we aim to remind people about the importance of supporting these hardworking individuals,” stated Christine Mola, Executive Director of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to encouraging people to turn to local businesses first for consumer needs, the campaign also aims to urge everyone to seek out Chamber members first. Whether looking for a bank, hair dresser, dry cleaner, landscaper or any other service, the Chamber is a great resource to find a local business for your needs.

By choosing to work with a Chamber member, you will not only be supporting a local business, as the majority of members are, but you are also working with someone who values being a part of the community enough to be involved in the Chamber.

To promote the Shop Local, Chamber First campaign, the Bristol Chamber of Commerce will be distributing flyers for local businesses to post in their windows, stores, websites or social media sites. To pick up printed posters, stop by the Chamber office at 200 Main Street, Bristol. For an electronic version, please contact Rebecca White at r.white@centralctchambers.org.

If you would like information on joining the Bristol Chamber or the benefits of membership, contact Christine Mola at (860) 584-4723 or c.mola@CentralCTChambers.org or visit www.CentralCTChambers.org.
