The Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce is hosting a special event on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plainville.  “Making Memories through Life’s Journeys” will feature Lee Woodruff, best-selling author and CBS correspondent.  Lee will discuss how her life changed in an instant when her husband, ABC World News Tonight co-anchor, Bob Woodruff was injured by a road side bomb in Iraq.

“She is an amazing woman who has a heart-wrenching story to tell about a woman on the home front facing the issues associated with combat,” said Carl S. Ey, retired Soldier and Director of Communications for Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center (SMTRC).  “We are proud to have her at the chamber and thrilled that she is helping raise money for our veteran-centric charity.”

As part of this event the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce will hold an auction with proceeds going to two charities.  SMTRC is one of the designated charities. The Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce is looking for auction items, which can include a gift item, gift certificates, tickets to an event, or even a complete basket. Please consider donating to this event.

Located on 26 acres of open meadows, SMTRC is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) premier accredited riding center.  SMTRC has a fabulous veteran program assisting combat-deployed service members suffering from emotional issues transition back into civilian life.  As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization,  SMTRC operates seven days per week and is located at 733 Hill Road in Bristol, Conn.  Visit us at www.shepardmeadows.org.

“Making Memories through Life’s Journeys” will begin at 5 p.m. at 556 Mulberry Street, Plainville, Conn.  Tickets are $60 for chamber members and $65 for non-members.  Sponsorships and more information about this great event can be found at www.centralctchambers.org.

Shepard Meadows is a special place to learn, have fun, as well as experience an inclusive, positive environment. Veterans have an opportunity to work closely with our horses and learn about how to move through anxiety to calm. These thousand pound teachers will walk you through obstacle courses, up and down hills and introduce you to your own inner landscape. The benefits of partaking in our veteran programs are truly immeasurable.

Tuesday: Early shower, fog and drizzle

Monday didn’t feel very much like July! With waves of rain and temperatures in the 60s it felt more like spring or fall! While most of the rain is done, a few lingering showers along with areas of fog and drizzle will continue tonight into Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be slightly better, but not by much. The sky will start off overcast with the chance for an isolated shower or mist. Then in the afternoon some breaks in the clouds […]
