Helen Treacy, new principal at St. Matthew School

BRISTOL — Students at St. Matthew School, a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school in Forestville, were greeted by new principal, Mrs. Helen L. Treacy, who is thrilled about her new position.

“The school has welcomed me with open arms,” said Treacy. “My first impression is that St. Matthew School is a very faith-filled and special place.”

Treacy was the previous principal at St. Augustine School in Hartford, which closed this past June to form the St. Brigid-St. Augustine Partnership School in West Hartford this coming school year. She has also taught elementary and junior high school students in San Diego, California, and before that was an Auxiliary Missionary of America (AMA) in Japan where she taught English Conversation to junior high school and junior college students.

Treacy is excited about collaborating with St. Matthew School Pastor Monsignor Thomas M Ginty.

“Our goal is to continue to instill in students to be people of faith, critical thinkers and lifelong learners,” she said.

The staff as well as the students will be exposed to new ideas. Treacy has implemented faculty morning prayer.

“This ten-minute time together will help us to connect with each other and set the tone for the day,” she said.

“I am happy to welcome Mrs. Treacy to our outstanding school. I know that she will carry out the traditions of our school, and will lead in preparing our students for high school and beyond by focusing on the Gospel message of Jesus,” said Monsignor Ginty.

Treacy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Communication Arts from Villanova University, as well as a Master’s of Science in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University. She resides in Canton with her husband and four children, two of whom are in college, and two who attend high school.

St. Matthew School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. For more information, or to schedule a school visit, call: 860-583-5214.

Tuesday: Early shower, fog and drizzle

Monday didn’t feel very much like July! With waves of rain and temperatures in the 60s it felt more like spring or fall! While most of the rain is done, a few lingering showers along with areas of fog and drizzle will continue tonight into Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be slightly better, but not by much. The sky will start off overcast with the chance for an isolated shower or mist. Then in the afternoon some breaks in the clouds […]
